Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter captioned “This article contains unattributed passages from other sources” by Vishnu Singh. I must state from the outset that I have known Mr Irfaan Ali for many years and can confirm he is an avid researcher and am happy that he has competently corrected the misconceptions of Mr Vishnu Singh. I have read previous pieces he did, both for public and internal consumption and never found an instance where he failed to cite the competent sources. I am absolutely convinced that at the end of the series all the respective sources will be cited.
However, the crux of this letter is to implore the likes of Vishnu Singh to support young researchers like Irfaan, rather than “knock them” at every opportunity. Guyana is short of realistic, relevant and up to date research and Irfaan must be commended for at least his efforts.
Comments such as those contained in Mr Singh’s letter, at minimum de-motivate. I would like to encourage Irfaan to write more and continue to share his depth of knowledge with the Guyanese public.
Unfortunately, I did not read Irfaan’s article, but I am now off to read last Sunday’s Chronicle.
Yours faithfully,
Sasenarine Singh
