The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha plans to transform the Guyana National Stadium at Providence into a model indentureship village as part of its commemoration of Indian Arrival Day.
President of the Dharmic Sabha Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud said at a press conference yesterday that in celebration of the 170th Indian Arrival Anniversary, the model village, on display on May 3 and 4, would be complete with “logies, mandir, school and kitchens.
“You will feel as if you have stepped back in time onto a sugar plantation in the 19th century…”
The two-day event will contain grand stage performances by artistes such as Krishna Mandata, Mohan Nandu, Suchitra Rampersaud and many others.
The event, according to Savitri Sukhai the organisation’s treasurer, will be financed mainly by the Sabha.
In an effort to subsidize its expenses the Sabha will be selling tickets for the events at $300 for adults and $200 for children. It said the event was not profit driven.
As is customary this event like all others will have zero tolerance for alcohol. A variety of food will be on sale and various businesses will have booths available with various Indian items like clothes, jewellery and craft. Tickets are available at the Dharmic Sabha, Buddy’s International Hotel, and a number of other locations.
