A 20-year-old man who stole four green mangoes was placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years on Wednesday when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Raul Ramsaywack of Second Street, Alberttown pleaded guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle. However, he requested that the court allow him to explain.
Ramsaywack told the court that he was hungry and climbed the tree to pick one ripe mango.
However, according to the virtual complainant (VC), Ramsaywack and a few others often stole his mangoes. To which the magistrate remarked: “You can’t even enjoy your own mangoes”.
The VC further said that it was approximately midnight when Ramsaywack was discovered in the tree and he didn’t budge from the tree until the police arrived and aimed a gun at him. Despite this, the man requested that the court give the defendant “a chance”.
The magistrate explained to the defendant the serious nature of his crime and placed him on a bond to keep the peace for two years, warning him that he must not steal.
