The inaugural Noble House Seafoods sponsored Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC)
Twenty20 knockout competition commenced yesterday with wins for Transport Sports Club (TSC), Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Police Sports Club and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) respectively.
In the opening match played at the MSC ground, GDF winning the toss and asking Transport to take first strike bowled out their opponents for 104 in 19.4 overs.
Stephen Alves struck a quick-fire 37 and received support from Shane Cummings 25 and former national under-19 all rounder Kellon Carmichael 18.
Guyana uner-19 spinner Totaram Bishun with 3-36 was the principal wicket taker for GDF who in reply were bowled out for 68 in 16.4 overs with only Keith Fraser (18) and former national fast bowler Roderick Lovell (10) getting into double figures. Carmichael returned with the ball and along with Travis Blyden picked up three wickets each for Transport.
In the second game at the same venue, Ghandi Youth Organization (GYO) were demolished by a powerful GCC side who batted first and posted a mammoth 190-6 from their 20 overs with Ricardo Jadunauth leading the way with 36 that was decorated with six fours .
He received admirable support from Ravi Sarwan (35 2x4s; 3x6s), Waslim Haslim (34 3x4s; 1×6), Leon Johnson (27 2×6,; 1×4), Jeetendra Sookdeo (24; 2x4s) and Paul Bevan 23 (2x4s; 1×6) respectively.
GYO in reply were only able to manage 98 from 16.4 overs with Wasim Mohammed and Andre Stoll contributing 23 each. National under-15 captain Kwame Cross made 12 as Jadunauth returned with the ball to claim 3-13 whilst Johnson (2-7) and Bevaughn 2-18 offered good support with the ball.
Over at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground, the home team won the toss and opting to take first strike on a heavy outfield, crashed to 72 all out in 17.2 overs against Police Sports Club. Abaiish Pookie was the only batsman to reach double figures with 27 (3x4s) as Jason Heyliger destroyed the batting line – up grabbing 4 – 14. Michael Cummins with 2-12 offered good support to Heyliger.
Police in reply got to 75 – 6 with Troy Benn top scoring with 20.He got support from Reginald Rodrigues (15) and Munilall Persaud 11, respectively. Troy Gonsalves was the most successful bowler for Everest with 2 – 10.
At Demerara Cricket Club, home team DCC took on Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) in what was deemed an exciting game by all who witnessed it.
DCC won the toss and opting to take first strike made 169-7 from their 20 overs with Dennis ‘Bitter man’ Squires leading the way with the bat hitting a chanceless 50 that was decorated with six sixes and one four. He received admirable support from Guyana/Stanford 20/20 player Chris Barnwell who struck 23 (4x4s; 1×6) and Kevin George 25 (3×6).
Vishal Mulchand with 4-24, former Guyana and West Indies off spinner Clyde Butts 3-24 and Garfield Newton 2-28 did the damage with the ball for GNIC who were then bowled out for 142 from 19.3 overs.
GNIC had a clear road to achieving their target until Barnwell despite being expensive in his four overs grabbed two wickets off successive deliveries to setback them back. Butts led from the front with the bat for GNIC with a polished 26 whilst Mark Montfort contributed 25.
Barnwell ended with 3-39 whilst Royston Alkins took 2-30.
All four Georgetown teams are through to the semi finals which will be played tomorrow.
