The inaugural Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC)/Guyana Beverages Limited-sponsored Kool Kidz Under-19 Twenty20 competition for secondary schools across Region Six commenced last Friday with Deon Moore grabbing 5-6 in a losing effort for his school, Lower Corentyne Secondary, in one of the six matches played while two were washed out.
At the Area ‘H’ ground, Lower Corentyne Secondary (LCSS) went down to Port Mourant Junior High by eight runs despite the bowling efforts of Moore in a low scoring affair. Port Mourant won the toss and were bowled out for 50 in 13.4 overs with Berbice Under-15 all rounder Lionel Lewis top scoring with 11 while Desmond Crandon was unbeaten on 10. National Under-15 spinner Dominique Ricky supported Moore by taking 2-3.
LCSS were then bowled out for 42 in 15 overs with Moore returning to make 16 while Deepak Seecharran contributed 10 to be the main scorers for their school. National left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie with 3-4 and Clifford Wong 3-7 did the damage to LCSS batting.
At Cumberland, Canje Secondary School defeated Berbice Educational Institute (BET) by 35 runs in their encounter. Canje won the toss and took first strike on their home ground but were dismissed for 112 in 19.3 overs.
Jermaine John led the batting with 55 that was decorated with six sixes and one four while Devendra Sirpaul made 15 in offering support to John. Kevin Ramdeen took 4-23 bowling for BET who were then bowled out for 77 in 16.2 overs. Ramdeen returned to hit 18 while Jermaine De Fraites made 15. Totaram Sookram (3-7) and Hercules Gilead with 3-12 did the damage with the ball for Canje Secondary.
Corentyne Comprehensive scored an eight-wicket victory over J.C. Chandisingh Secondary (JCSS) at the Port Mourant Community Centre ground.
JCSS batted first and were bowled out for 46 after being 42-3 at one stage. Only Mark Fernandes top scored with 13. Berbice Under-15 leg spinner Shawn Perreira took 4-6 from his four overs for CCHS who then reached 47-2 on the back of an attractive 27 from Veerapen Permaul. CCHS can however find themselves being disqualified from the competition after J.C. Chandisingh lodged an appeal claiming they played an overage player in the game.
At Canje Welfare ground, New Amsterdam Secondary defeated Vyrman Erven Secondary by three wickets. Vyrman Erven batted first and were bowled out for 80 in 19.5 overs with Orlando Tanner being left unbeaten on 20 while Alex Adams made 12. Bobb Nelson took 3-21 and Vijay Singh 2-17 bowling for NAS who then knocked off the required runs for the loss of seven wickets reaching 81-7 in 18.3 overs. Linden Austin with 21 and Ravin Kissoon 14 were the principal scorers for NAS.
Skeldon High School scored a four-wicket win over Skeldon Line Path at the Scottsburg ground.
Line Path batted first and scored 95 from 18.5 overs with Moneshwar Rashdari making 32 and Lawan Roopran 16. Marvin Harvey took 5-11 bowling for Skeldon High who then made 96-6 from 18 overs. Abdool Razack made 20 while Harvey returned to contribute 17 with the bat. Dwayne Adams with 3-16 and Ishan Ally 2-23 tried desperately to carry their team to victory with the ball.
At Bush Lot ground, Winfred Gaskin Secondary gained a walk over from Manchester High School who failed to prepare the wicket for the game.
