The indigenous community, Surama has been chosen by Ricochet, a British independent television company as one of the locations for the filming of an adventure reality-based survivor type contest and TV series, a release from the Guyana Tourism Authority has said.
According to the GTA the series, titled ‘Unbreakable’ will provide Guyana with much needed positive publicity and will help to create more awareness of and raise the profile and image of the country as an unspoilt, untouched and undiscovered destination. The release said that a 20-member team comprising film crew and eight contestants arrived in Guyana last Saturday and the production shoot was due to begin last week. The press release said that the contest was about survival in the great outdoors and wilderness and the contestants would undergo a series of gruelling tasks to test their survival and endurance. The GTA said that the community of Surama would benefit from the construction of three thatched bush camps, two toilets, two dug-out canoes, two aluminum boats with engines, a generator, and a lap-top computer, among other items. Over 20 people from the village would be employed over the five-day production shoot, while two local community members will feature prominently on the show.
