Thanks to Ansa Mc Al Limited, Sweet16 football now has a new home.
The new home is to be found on the East Coast where the Bakewell Buxton United Football Club will play host to some sixteen football teams including Georgetown’s number one club Alpha United in the knock out competition set to commence early next month at the Plaisance Community Centre ground.
Last week in the boardroom of the sponsor, marketing manager of Ansa McAl Ltd., Troy Cadogan, expressed his company’s delight with being able to bring the competition to the East Coast.
“We are pleased to be associated with Bakewell Buxton United Football Club in this venture having first been associated with the West Demerara Football Sub Association.
“We want to adopt the East Coast area the same way we adopted West Coast and to this effect, we will be pumping over $610,000.00 into this competition that will see the winner pocketing $300, 000.00.”
Manager of Bakewell Buxton United, Martin Wade, thanked the sponsors for coming on board especially in such a timely manner.
“This is a timely donation by Ansa McAl to partner with us at Bakewell Buxton United. We felt football on the East Coast of Demerara needed some improvement and they had no hesitation to come on board with us as a sponsor and to this I would like to say heartfelt thank you to them.”
Treasurer Sharon Abrams also thanked the sponsors for their timely contribution whilst stating that the village of Buxton needed such a boost and hoped to have a continuous relationship with Ansa McAl.
Apart from Alpha, who are the current Kashif and Shanghai, Georgetown premier league and Mayor’s Cup champions, other teams invited to participate in the knock out tournament are Western Tigers, Black Stallion, B/V Triumph United, Conquerors, Camptown, Guyana Defence Force, Golden Stars, Pele, Plaisance, Uprising, Santos, Camptown, Ann’s Grove, Victoria and host Bakewell Buxton\United Football clubs respectively.
The first runner- up will receive $150,000.00, whilst the second and third runners-up will pocket $100,000.00 and $60,000.00 each respectively.
Cadogan also took the time to hand over to former national coach Joseph ‘Bill’ Wilson, two sets of jerseys that will be worn by the teams in the final of the BV Football Club Inter Block championship that is presently ongoing.
