Fidelity Investments Incorporated has given all assurances that Trinidad soca queen Destra will put on an energetic and violence free performance during the Polar Ice Amplifier Concert come Friday and that full attention will be paid to security.
The company says that Destra who is known for her bacchanal, dancehall vibes portrays a different image when compared with Jamaicans Mavado and Bounty Killa, who were banned on Monday from entering the country by Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee for security reasons.
Friday’s concert slated for the National Park is free. Gates will open at 6 pm and show time is seven. Destra is expected to hit the stage at ten.
During a press conference to update the media on the concert which evolves around the launching of Polar Ice, the company’s public relations officer Stan Gouveia told the media that one has to take cognizance of Destra’s image.
He was responding to a question raised about the recent banning of the Jamaican artists and what the company intends to do about security at the show.
Gouveia said that Destra sings “wuk up hits that make people bacchanal and dance up” adding that the 2008 Trinidad Soca Queen performed several times in Guyana without an incident.
He however stressed that not because she is a violence free artiste, they will assume that the show will run smoothly.
Security, which will include members of the Guyana Police Force and a private security company, he said, will be present to ensure that weapons such as guns, knives or any sharp object do not enter the venue.
“This will definitely come off successful in terms of security”, Gouveia assured the media.
The media was also told that the Home Affairs Ministry plays a monitoring role in that the resume of the artist as well as samples of their music have to be submitted being approval is given.
During the press conference, members of the media got a chance to speak to the Soca queen via telephone.
She said that she will be bringing her new hits such as On the Floor, Wine It and Shadow, which she released during carnival earlier in the year.
Destra said that Guyanese can expect the usual energy from her and in return she wants to see the usual cooperation from her fans. Destra and her band will arrive in Guyana tomorrow.
Brutal Jammers, 71 Sounds, Rockers and Jamaican’s top secret sound system will also be in attendance.
Facts and Roses will be the official designers for Polar Ice.
