President Bharrat Jagdeo inspected several drainage and irrigation (D&I) structures in Region Two on Monday on the heels of dialogue on the Jagdeo Initiative on Agriculture which will see 5,000 acres of farmland cultivated.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the president inspected structures such as the Westbury sluice and other entities being built in the area including the Fisher New Primary School and the Suddie Diagnostic Centre which is yet to be furnished and is powered by a generator.
Jagdeo held discussions with several doctors and other staff at the Centre. He was displeased that the Centre has not been receiving regular electricity supply and that it had not been completed though the deadline had long passed. He told officials that the delay and other problems were also noted at several other centres.
According to GINA it is one of four centres constructed under the Guyana–Cuba project.
Meanwhile, Jagdeo also told RCA TV that more persons needed to join the agriculture expansion process. He later met with members of the Evergreen/Paradise Neighbourhood Democratic Council at Dartmouth to discuss the initiative.
