The Region Four administration yesterday issued a stern warning to ‘sloppy‘ contractors who fail to carry out works according to specifications.
Regional Information Officer Rajiv Bisnauth in a release from the regional administration office stated that there would also be “sanctions meted out to contractors who deviate from the contract agreement inclusive of timely completion of works.” The release said last year the region was forced to terminate contracts of at least four contractors who either failed to approach the regional administration for the signing of contracts as a result of the slow pace of work or failed to commence work. It said too that the contractors were involved in the construction of roads, drains, culvert doors and the supplying of tubing.
According to the statement, Regional Executive Officer Shafdar Alli has said that the Regional Democratic Council Works Committee would have to play a vital role in ensuring that works are carried out according to specification and do close monitoring. The region’s engineering department, he added, would increase supervision of works carried out by the contractors on a regular basis to ensure quality works and services are provided to the regional administration.
He also pointed out that residents within the region have an important role to play in this developmental process, pointing out that when residents observe any inferior or defective works within their community they should immediately inform the administration. The regional administration maintained that it was demanding quality work within the time frame given.
