The first leg of the semi–final in the Barakat Brothers 20/20 Knockout Cricket Competi-tion was decided last weekend as Parika Warriors and Cornelia Ida recorded victories over Ruby and Rangers respectively at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground, West Demerara.
Earlier, two first-round games were contested; Rangers arrested Leguan and Versailles overcame Crane.
On Saturday, Rangers batted first posting a massive 229– 7 in 20 overs with an unbeaten 74 (9x4s, 6x6s) from Zamal Khan.
Bryan Roopchan and Jainarine Nandram picked up three wickets apiece for Leguan accumulating 32 and 41 runs respectively.
In reply, Leguan could only get to 93 before they were bowled out in 13.5 overs with Sanath Latchana tearing through their batting lineup finishing with 6–21.
The following day, Crane’s batting was poor as they stumbled to 99 all out in 18 overs.
Seon Daniels grabbed 3–15, Raul Hoyte 2–1 and Vivian Beckles 2–8 for Versailles.
Versailles sailed to victory in the 17th over getting to 103–2 in the midst of Vivian Beckles and Raul Hoyte who both finished unbeaten on 35, while Seanauth Bisessar grabbed both wickets for 15 runs.
Later in the day Parika Warriors trashed Ruby after posting 174 in 20 overs with Yougihister Bachan 39 (3x4s) leading the way.
It was evident that the total was too much for Ruby as they crumbled to 75 all out in 16.1 overs with Bryan Herbert bagging 3–16.
Imtiaz HacK delivered a well played 85 (6x4s, 5x6s) that catapulted Cornelia Ida in to the semi–final. His contribution got the team to 173 in 20 overs.
This proved way too hot for the Rangers to handle and they surrendered at 129 in 18.3 overs as Shaun Jairaj and Bisram Thomas claimed three wickets for 11 and 16 runs respectively.
