A 42-year-old man who allegedly stole a battery worth $36,000 on Tuesday lied by saying that he was a baker when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Dellon Wallis pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that on April 27 at Robb Street, Bourda, Wallis stole a battery belonging to Leonard Marks. Marks told the court that a number of people saw the accused on his premises and subsequently in possession of the battery.
Wallis told the court that he was employed as a baker and supplied the address and phone number of his purported place of employment. After calling the number and making enquiries as to whether there was a baker shop by the name Wallis gave, the court found that the baker shop was non-existent.
Magistrate Robertson-Ogle refused the accused bail and the matter will continue on May 16 in Court Four.
