A 60-year-old woman who was charged with murdering her husband was remanded to prison when she appeared before Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop at the Blairmont Court yesterday.
It is alleged that on April 27 at Bennett Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice, Thakurmanie murdered Yadha called “Ramsook Maikhoo”. The woman who appeared emotionless in the dock as the charge was read to her was not required to plead to the capital offence.
The matter was prosecuted by Sergeant Donna Grant-Fraser. Reports are that the couple had a misunderstanding and Thakurmanie dealt him a blow to his left hand. His lifeless body was found under his one-bedroom house at around 1:30 pm.
A post-mortem examination performed on Yahda, a fish vendor, showed that he died from shock and internal hemorrhage. Reports are that the woman who had borne him seven children and who said she suffered years of abuse at his hands had claimed that she was asleep and when she got up she discovered his lifeless body and raised an alarm.
The police were informed and they arrived at the scene at around 7:30 pm with a hearse and transported the body to the Fort Wellington Hospital mortuary.
According to reports, Yadha had started drinking heavily “in and out” for the past two weeks, resulting in even more disputes between him and Thakurmanie. He had reportedly left home on Saturday and returned around 10 am on Sunday.
The woman is scheduled to return to court on June 4.
