President of the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) Gokarn Ramdhani, donned his playing apparel and teamed up with Mark Chang to win the men’s doubles final of the (GBA) Open doubles tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall last Friday.
The pair booked their spot in the final after completing a hard fought 11-21, 21- 18, 21-19 win against Raymond Khalil and Rajin Naraine on Thursday evening.
In the final the pair made light work of Anuj Singh and Deodat Etwaru
prevailing in straight sets 21-13, 23-21. Ramdhani’s bid for a second title was scuppered by the father and daughter combination of Raymond and Ashley Khalil in the mixed doubles final who defeated the GBA president and partner Nadia Salick in straight games.
At the closing ceremony, Ramdhani said that he was pleased with the turnout of players for this tournament and hoped to have the same amount of participants or even more in upcoming singles tournaments.
“The aim of this tournament was to bring out you players in your numbers and I am very pleased that my strategy worked,” he said.
