Guyana’s Ransford Goodluck led his country’s charge as first day leader Dylan Fields dropped to fourth place at the end of day two of the West Indies Full Bore Shooting championships ‘X’ Class Individual competition at the Twickenham Rifle Range in Jamaica.
Goodluck, the current national champion, ended the day on 130 points with 10 V-Bulls and was second overall behind Andrew Wilde of the London and Middlesex Rifle Association who is the overall leader.
Goodluck shot 49 points with 3 V-Bulls at the 300-yard range and also dropped one point at 500 yards with 3 V-bulls.
He returned to shoot 48 points with 4 V-bulls at the 1000-yard range under very windy conditions.
First day leader and Guyana’s vice-captain Dylan Fields dropped to fourth position with scores of 47.3, 34.2 and 44.2.
Another Guyanese Major Terrence Stuart continued to lead the ‘O’ Class shooters, while the consistent Ryan Sampson shot the only possible on day two for Guyana with a score of 35.3 at the 500-yard range.
Dane Blair finished second among the Guyanese with 128 points with 14 V-bulls,while Mahendra Persaud secured 126 points with 11 V-bulls.
Fields and Claude Duguid both ended the day of 125 points with seven V-bulls.
After two days, Goodluck’s overall aggregate was 259 points with 20 V-bulls, followed by Dylan Fields 255 (17) Persaud 251 (17) Richard Fields 248 (18) with Sampson on 246 (18) among the contenders for Guyana.
Today is a rest day while the team championship will be contested tomorrow and Sunday.The championships have attracted shooters from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Guyana, Jamaica, London & Middlesex Rifle Association and Trinidad & Tobago.
The Guyanese shooters are the reigning regional short range champions following their excellent performance at last year’s championships held at home at the Timehri Ranges.
The local marksmen missed out on the long range title by just one point to Trinidad and Tobago and senior members of the team vouched to reclaim it in Jamaica this year.
