Violence free show promised for Linden

Promoters of the Linden Town Day show on tomorrow have come out in support of the recent ban on Jamaican artistes Bounty Killer and Mavado and have given assurances to Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee that the event will be incident free.

Rohee met with representatives from Ward Entertainment; the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Linden and the Linden Economic Advancement Project (LEAP) at his ministry yesterday to advise them of the government’s position on the use of certain lyrics that may create security concerns.

A Government Information Agency (GINA) release said Rohee made mention of public calls to not only ban the artistes from entering Guyana but from allowing their music on the airwaves noting that this is being given attention.

The promoters of the Linden show that will feature Jamaicans Beenie Man and Lady Saw said they supported the action taken by government since some of the lyrics of the two artistes are viewed as a threat to security.
According to GINA, Rohee stated that the decision to ban the artistes was taken from a societal perspective that is against the use of lyrics that promote violence and degradation of women.

On Monday Rohee had announced the ban on the Jamaicans stating that they are a threat to security and had pointed to the recent concert featuring Bounty Killer that was marred by gunfire.

Mavado was scheduled to perform at the Glow Party and International Concert in Linden that is on tomorrow but arrangements were put in place to have Beenie Man following the ban.
