Home advantage proved worthless to Lusignan Sports Club ( LSC) as they succumbed to Enterprise Cricket Club (ECC) in the final of the President’s Cup first division, 40-over cricket competition at the Lusignan Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara, on Thursday.
Replying to Enterprise’s challenging total of 229 all out off 39. 4 overs, LSC were dismissed for 172 off 36.2, to give their arch-rivals victory by 57 runs.
Enterprise were powered to their winning total through aggressive knocks from openers Vishnath Gobin ( 58 off 66 balls ) and Lakeram Samaroo ( 40 off 32 deliveries, and with two fours and two sixes. All- rounder Sultan Safdar ( 28 off 23 balls; 1×4, 2x6s) national off-spinner Zaheer Mohammed ( 16 with one six) and B. Singh ( 22) also played good, supporting knocks.
Bowling for Lusignan, H. Sattaur, N. Singh and K. Bishundial claimed 2-64; 2-43; and 2-35, respectively. Vishnu Ramjeet chipped in with 1-40. Needing 230 to win, Lusignan made a spirited effort to reach their target through attacking knocks from skipper H. Sattaur, 40 ( 1×4, 3x6s); Narvan Singh, 24 ( 2x6s) and a cameo 29 ( 3x6s) from national under-15 player, Imran Khan. Heeralall Hira weighed in with 18 ( 1×4,1×6).
National off-spinner Zaheer Mohammed was the pick of the Enterprise bowlers with 4-27 and he was ably supported by Sultan Safdar, 2-54, L. Dindyal, 2-36 and R. Pooran 1-21. Enterprise opening batsman, Vishnath Gobin, was named man of the match.
