Demerara Distillers Limited will sponsor an eight-round Swiss System chess tournament this month for junior and senior chess players in recognition of Guyana’s 42nd independence anniversary under its popular Topco Juices label.
The $50,000 Topco Juices tournament is expected to attract the country’s leading players as they begin preparation for the Carifesta chess extravaganza in August, which will include an open knockout competition and a simultaneous exhibition. Visitors to Carifesta will be invited to participate in the two chess events which are to be hosted by the Guyana Chess Federation.
Details of the Topco independence tournament will be conveyed to aspiring participants in due course.
