Three bandits made off with $6M in cash and cheques after robbing two accounts clerks attached to a downtown Georgetown store, who were taking the money to a bank yesterday.
The incident occurred at the corner of North Road and Avenue of the Republic. A police press release stated that the force is investigating a robbery under arms that occurred about 11:40 am yesterday during which three men attacked and robbed the two accounts clerks attached to a city store.
Police said that investigations revealed that the clerks were in the company’s mini bus taking $6M in cash and cheques to a city bank when, as the vehicle slowed in traffic, a man armed with a handgun rode up on a motor cycle and smashed a window of the vehicle and held them at gunpoint. “Two other men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, and who were on foot entered the vehicle and took away the bags containing the cash and cheques, after which the three men escaped”, the statement said. Investigations are continuing.
