Transport Sports Club (TSC) resisted an attempted arrest by Police Sports Club while Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) all had convincing victories when the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Neal and Massy 40-overs-a-side first division competition continued last weekend in Georgetown.
Playing at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, TSC resisted arrest by the lawmen with a 116-run victory.
Winning the toss and batting, TSC, on the backs of 54 (3x4s) from Travis Blyden, 51 (4x6s; 1×4) from Stephen Alves and 47 from Shane Cummings (7x4s) scored 217-5 from their 40 overs.
T. Gilbert with 2-31 was the most productive bowler for Police who were then scuttled out for 104 from 22 overs.
Gilbert returned to score 22 (2x4s) and, along with Miles Roopchand, 11, were the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Former national under-19 all rounder, Kellon Carmichael, with 3-36 and Kevin Ross, 2-25, were the main wicket-takers for TSC.
MSC drills GDF
At the MSC ground Thomas Lands, the home team defeated newly-promoted Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by three wickets.
MSC won the toss and sent GDF in to take first strike.
They were dismissed for 153 in 35 overs with Keith Fraser’s 41, the top score.
Fraser slammed four fours and two sixes and received support from Charles Pitt and Terry Fraser with 23 each.
Pitt struck two fours and one six while Fraser struck one four and two sixes in his unbeaten 23.
Veteran player Neil Barry took 4-18 while former national under-19 off spinner Clive Andries supported with 3-19 for MSC, who replied with 159-7 from 26.3 overs.
Former national under-19 batsman Shemroy Barrington led the way with a polished 42 (5x4s; 1×6) whilst Imran Hassan chipped in with 30 (4x4s). Barry returned to stroke an unbeaten 22 (2×6; 1×4) to see his team to a comfortable victory despite the efforts of former national under-19 spinner Totaram Bishun (4-34) and left-arm chinaman bowler, Clinton Collins, 2-44.
DCC overcomes GNIC
At DCC in Queenstown, the home team pulled off a nail-biting, seven-run victory over Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) thanks to Dennis ‘Bitter Man’ Squires.
Batting first upon winning the toss, DCC reached 190-8 from 40 overs with Troy Nurse (42; 3x4s), Squires 35 (2x4s; 3x6s) and national players Darwin Christian, 27 (4x4s) and fast bowler Trevon Garraway 21 (1×6) being the main contributors.
Collis Butts, son of former Guyana and West Indies off spinner Clyde Butts, took 2-32 whilst Marlon Rajmangal claimed 2-51 for GNIC who were then bowled out for 183 from 39.3 overs.
Clyde Butts, who was given a life by Christian at point when on 26 with his team’s score reading 143-7 in the 34th over went on to lead his team with 38 (3x6s; 1×4) before being the last man out in the final over bowled by Garraway.
Squires scalped 4-39 and received support from Garraway (2-26), Matthew Marks (2-41) and Essequibo under-19 player Royston Alkins (2-51).
