Three teenagers who allegedly murdered a man in the city were remanded to prison yesterday when they were taken before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Selassie McFarlane, 18, of 933 Sophia, East Coast Demerara, Seretse Rogers, 19, of 676 B Field Sophia and a 14-year-old male were not required to plead to the capital charge of murder.
It is alleged that on April 24 the three teenagers murdered Jermain Persaud, 20, outside of Demico House.
It was alleged that Persaud was stabbed to death with a pair of scissors after an altercation with several persons on the pavement outside of Demico House.
McFarlane’s attorney told the court that his client’s case represented another matter where the police had done shabby work. According to the lawyer, the police knew it was another person who committed the murder and his client was an innocent bystander.
“Don’t think you will stretch out this matter. There is no evidence against these young men,” the lawyer told the prosecution.
The matter was transferred to Court Five for May 13.
