Lots of action, an upset win and draws highlighted the past two rounds of matches when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) 2008 Cellink Plus first division competition continued at the Tucville ground over the holiday weekend.
On Monday evening Uprising and Santos FC’s encounter ended in a stalemate whilst the Fruta Conquerors overcame Pele in a close encounter.
And, on Friday, the GDF staged the upset of the tournament so far when they scraped a victory from a nearly empty barrel squeezing past tournament powerhouse Alpha United in a 1 – 0 result.
In Monday’s encounter, Uprising and Santos FC failed to do any harm to each other as they battled to a draw ,but in the feature match of the double header, Fruta Conquerors sliced Pele in a close shave.
The first six minutes belonged to Pele as Travis Grant scored in the seventh minute.
But John Hinds equalized soon after for the Conquerors while Lester Peters delivered the final blow in the 20th minute which settled the outcome of the match as early as the first half.
One–nil was the order of the night in the Sunburst Camptown/GFC encounter.
A successful strike by Dexter Mollyneaux in the 14th minute put the one and only stroke on the board in the first half with the two teams enduring a goalless second half.
Shawn Arthur was the ‘spoil sport’ in Alpha United’s eyes as he delivered a critical blow for GDF, completely crippling Alpha United.
After 90 minutes of action the game looked likely to end in a draw, but Shawn Arthur capitalized on the opening offered in injury time and upturned the entire scenario by scoring in the 91st minute and causing the biggest upset of the tournament.
