The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport says the church community is an essential institution and it plans to allow it to play an integral role in Carifesta X.
According to a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) Minister Dr Frank Anthony made these disclosures in his address to the congregation at the Winners Cathedral Church. He urged the congregation to join in the activities saying that during the festival each religious group will host its activities on a different night.
Anthony also said in previous Carifesta events the talents that exist in the Diaspora were not tapped but this year’s festival is being promoted at the national, regional and international levels.
He said stakeholders, representatives and NGOs at all three levels said they were hopeful that the religious community could come on board. Anthony told the congregation that volunteers are needed and he gave assurances that security has been made a priority.
The minister also said a number of innovations have been included in the agenda for the festival. These include a public arts project where murals and sculptures will be showcased in Georgetown. An art project sponsored by the United Nations Children’s Fund is also in the cards and it will be launched in Guyana and in the Region. GINA said the top five entries will be showcased at a special children’s art exhibition during Carifesta. An interactive village for youths will also be hosted at the festival.
According to Anthony a Caribbean edutainment conference will also be held and 50 persons from throughout the Region will be brought to participate.
