An unbeaten half century from former national under-19 captain and Guyana/ Stanford Twenty20 star Andre Percival, a five wicket haul from Abdel Fudadin and a splendid all round performance from West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon were the highlights of the latest round of matches in the 5th Annual Guyana Beverages Limited sponsored Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSB) Busta Champions of Champions tournament played recently in Berbice.
Police fail to arrest RHWSB
At the Area ’H’ ground, defending champions Rose Hall Windies Sports Bar (RHWSB) whipped Police Sports Club by 123 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, RHWSB led by Percival’s innings of 65* (6x4s; 3x6s) scored 261-7 from their 46 overs in a reduced match. Wicket keeper batsman Delbert Hicks with 42, Renwick Batson with 34 and Berbice under-19 opener Eon Hooper (30), contributed handsomely with the bat for RHWSB against the bowling of Zaheer Moakan Stephens who took 2-44.
Police in reply struggled against the bowling of Abdel Fudadin, the younger brother of Guyana middle order batsman Assad Fudadin, who scalped 5-16 with his leg spin and were dismissed for 138 in 35 overs.
Moakan returned to stroke 36 whilst his younger brother Imran Moakan offered support with 31. Batson (2-31) and Troy Matheison (2-10) offered support to Fudadin.
Albion defeats West Berbice
At Albion Community centre, visitors West Berbice must have scented victory when they opposed the home team Albion Community Centre Cricket club in their encounter.
On a flat Albion wicket, the home team struggled and was bowled out for 125 from 30 overs with national under-19 batsman Jonathan Foo making 25, whilst West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon offered support with 22.
Dwayne Duke with 3-38, who in partnership with Berbice under-19 fast bowler Keon Fraser 9-2-1-6) and Jermaine Reymonds (2-29) did the damage with the ball for West Berbice who were then scuttled out for 98 from 44 overs.
Krisendat Ramoo with 25 and Carlton Nurse (24) were the lone batsmen to offer resistance to the home team’s bowling as Chattergoon returned with the ball to scalp 4-12 and together with Berbice Under-19 spinner Sahadeo Somai (2-6), ensured their team reached the semi final of this prestigious tournament.
Port Mourant sends
Bermine packing
At Port Mourant, visitors Bermine Cricket Club were sent packing by the home team Port Mourant Cricket Club who won the encounter by five wickets.
Bermine took first strike and were held to 186-9 from their 50 overs with Julian Moore, son of Guyana’s senior team manager Carl Moore, led the batsmen with 34. He received support from Jamal Ogle (28) and Steve Sinclair 27.
Yogindra Harrinarine with 4-10 and Rajendra Bolo 2-28 were the leading wicket takers for Port Mourant who reached 186-5 from 44 overs when they replied. Bheem Singh (46*), Roopnarine Ramgobin (44) and Pooran Debydyal with 34 were the responsible batsmen to see their team home as J. Carmichael (3-42) and Moore who returned to claim 2-27 tried desperately to see their team through with the ball.
Scotsburg upsets Young Warriors At the Skeldon Community Centre ground, home team Scotsburg United Cricket Club created an upset when they defeated Young Warriors who had recently won the Noble House Seafoods sponsored Malteenoes Sports Club Invitational Twenty20 competition by five wickets.
Young Warriors were asked to take first strike and were dismissed for 130 from 39.3 overs with former national captain Damodar Daesrath leading the way with 42. Balram Samaroo with 22 and national under-19 batsman Seon Hetymyer 20 offered support to Daesrath against the bowling of the under-rated national off spinner Imran Jafferally who took 4-12 and James Hart with 2-7.
In reply, Scotsburg reached 131-5 from 36 overs with Peter Greaves hitting 34 and Berbice under-19 wicket keeper batsman Anthony Bramble 24. Michael Saul also contributed an unbeaten 17 with the bat as Samaroo returned to claim 3-30 in a losing cause.
The semifinals which will see Scotsburg taking on RHWSB and Albion opposing Port Mourant at the area ‘H’ and Albion grounds respectively, will be played on Sunday, May 8.
The winner of this tournament will pocket $100,000.00 whilst the runners-up will receive $50,000.00.
