Central High Annandale Secondary emerge victors
GBTI says Central High and Annandale Secondary proved to be formidable opponents when they went up against St John’s College and Covent Garden Secondary respectively, in the Inter-Secondary School Impromptu Speech competition for fourth formers.
According to a press release from the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI) Regent Street Branch, Central scored 653 points to beat St John’s who scored 356. Central pulled topics ‘When I am sixty years old…’; ‘The importance of quiet times’ and ‘A law should be made that bans….’ St John’s selected ‘What should I expect when I do something wrong?’; ‘Should my television time be limited?’ and ‘Using a cell phone when driving.’
Meanwhile, Annandale scored 615 points and Covent Garden 530. Annandale selected topics: ‘The advantages of being a man’; ‘What do you think is meant by ‘the point of no return?’ and “A healthy lifestyle includes…’ Their opponents chose ‘If you could give money away, who would you give it to”’; ‘Minibuses need more regulation’ and ‘School days are the best days of your life.’
The judges’ panel comprised Barbara Sukhai, Bonita Hunter and Dr Joyce Jonas.
