The Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) began selling packet flour on Thursday under a government initiative to cushion the effects of rising food prices.
In a press release GMC said flour will be made available daily at the Guyana Shop located at Robb and Alexander Streets at reduced prices. Also, mobile units will be visiting a number of locations to sell the commodity. On Thursday a mobile unit was stationed behind the Bourda Mall at Cummings Street from 2pm to 3.30pm. It later moved to D’Urban Street and Mandela Avenue from 4pm-6pm. The one kilogramme packet of Thunderbolt flour, usually sold at prices ranging from $195-$220, was sold for $150.
GMC said mobile units will be at the Diamond/Grove market area today from 8am -12pm; at Canal Number One (two brothers) from 8am-10am and at Tuschen from 10.30am- 3pm. The unit will be at Port Mourant from 7am-10am; at New Amsterdam from 10.30am-1.30pm; at Rosignol from 7am-11am; at Bath from 11.30am-2pm; at the Linden Municipal Market from 7am-10am and from 10.30am-1pm and at the Mon Repos Market from 7am-1pm. On Monday mobile units will visit Charity from 7.30am-12pm and Suddie from 12.30pm-3pm.
The release said units also visited Mahaica from 7am-10am; Enmore from 10.30am-1pm and Lusignan from 1.30pm -4pm yesterday.
