A 43-year-old who allegedly had an unlicensed gun and two sets of matching ammunition in his home when police searched it, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, shortly after he denied the allegations.
Robert Stanley of Mango Landing, Upper Mazaruni, pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm without a licence and two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition without a licence when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning.
It is alleged that on Wednesday at Mango Landing, the defendant has in his possession, one 16-gauge shotgun, one 16-gauge cartridge and two 16-gauge cartridges.
The police’s case against Stanley is that on the day in question, several ranks from the Guyana Police Force carried out a search on his home. The gun and two cartridges were found under a bed and another round was discovered in an old multi-coloured haversack that was hanging on a wall.
Stanley will return to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court on June 16.
