The Guyana Water Inc (GWI) said bandits again vandalised its property on the East Coast and stole parts that are scarce and costly to replace.
In a press release GWI Executive Director Karan Singh said damage to the company’s infrastructure affects service and creates water disruptions to customers. The latest theft occurred on Tuesday where four valves were stolen from the canal crossing at Richards Town, Lusignan. Also, on Sunday bandits stole three air release valves from the canal crossing at Agriculture Road, Mon Repos. GWI said it believes these items are sold to scrap metal dealers and suggests that businesses purchasing them question the source of such objects.
The company said too tampering with its water system poses grave health risks. Perpetrators can also be fined $30,000 to $90,000 and serve a two-month prison term.
