Revenge will be number one on the priority list of the Kashif & Shanghai (K&S) Kings when they meet the Courts Pacesetters this evening at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hardcourt in the finals of the Brusche Classics Basketball Tournament.
It seems like just yesterday when these two teams met in the Next Level Entertainment (NLE) finals, and Pacesetters dethroned the Kings in front of their home crowd.
Kings’ coach Junior Angel said that tonight’s final is a golden opportunity for his team to get revenge.
He also said that the savory taste of revenge would be even sweeter in front of their home crowd, who has been longing for the demise of the Pacesetters at the hands of the Linden team.
The Pacesetters have enjoyed a virtually unchallenged run to reach the finals, comfortably getting rid of some of Linden’s top teams including the Amelia Ward Jets, who were a sure pick for the finals.
Their work was lightened by the fact that the Ravens-one of their biggest foes- did not participate in the tournament.
Pacesetters pushed aside the Jets 100-84 as the star guards Stephon Gillis (30) and Nailon Loncke (29) combined for 59 of the Setter’s total.
In the other semifinals, K&S Kings added insult to injury as they crushed the Beepat Scorpions 60-43 for the second time in recent weeks.
Steve Neils Jnr. returned to action on the local seen after lighting up the basketball arenas for K Brands Marabella Raptors in Trinidad.
Armed with his superb jump shot, Neils poured in 19 points while Marvin Hartman netted 13 along with Omaly Sampson’s 12.
Setters coach Robert Cadogan in a telephone interview yesterday morning that his charges would prove that last year’s victory in the NLE finals was no fluke and pointed out that his team had defeated Kings on another occasion with the likes of Dwayne ‘Brown Sugar’ Roberts, Alwin Wilson and Steve Neils Jr, so a win this Saturday night would not be a surprise.
He then added that the interesting thing about this game would be the match up between Stephon Gillis and Marvin Hartman, one that he admits could produce fireworks. (KY)
