Thirteen “big girls” have already been selected for this year’s Ms Renaissance Pageant slated for November 1 at the National Cultural Centre and they will be sashed later this month.
Speaking to The Scene recently, the pageant’s organiser Negla Brandis said the women chosen are between the ages of 29 and 50.
As of now, the committee is quite contented with the pool of women chosen, but may add one more if the opportunity presents itself.
Brandis said that the sashing ceremony will be held on May 25 at the King Plaza Hotel while rehearsals will begin in June.
At every staging, the pageant targets the professional, family-oriented and older Guyanese woman, age 28 and above. During the talent segment of the competition on pageant night, various aspects of our culture are displayed as the pageant is held under the theme ‘Visions of our Culture’.
The other difference with this pageant is that there is no swimsuit segment. Instead there will be three categories – cultural presentation, corporate attire and after-five elegance.
This year would mark the fourth time it is being held with the first being in 2003.
Ms Renaissance is a pageant that allows the contestants to show off their accomplishments, inner beauty, maturity, leadership skills, cultural awareness and talent.
Last October, after months of preparation and four hours of competition on pageant night, Guyana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) Simone Beckles, emerged the winner out of a pool of ten vying for the title.
