The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) says it has not recently granted an increase in rates applied by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI).
It made the statement in light of complaints it has received from consumers saying that (GWI) had charged them sums in excess of what they owed last year.
In a press release yesterday the PUC said when it made its order it had set out certain bands and the rates approved for each band are the legal rates. It said too it had ruled that GWI restructure the tariff bands to allow for uniformity and a smaller number of bands but the company has not yet submitted its proposals for consideration. “Consumers cannot be placed in any different bands or rate category without the approval of the Commission,” it said.
In the tables below, the customer category “GUYWA” represents consumers in the country areas who were originally served by the Guyana Water Authority prior to the formation of GWI.
The category GS&WC relates to consumers in Georgetown originally served by the Guyana Sewerage and Water Commissioners prior to the formation of GWI.
