A 21-year-old man who allegedly abducted a girl under the age of 18 was placed on bail when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Kirk Campbell was not required to plead to the charge when it was read to him by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that between January 23 and 24 of last year Campbell abducted a female under the age of 18 with the intention to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
According to the prosecution, Campbell was before the court previously on a charge of carnal knowledge. However, that file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and it was subsequently advised that the current charge of abduction be instituted.
Attorneys-at-law Hunter Richardson and Hewley Griffith represented the accused. Griffith reminded the court that on the previous occasion his client had been granted bail and attended court punctually. He requested the same bail be applied since Campbell has proven that he is not a flight risk.
The accused was placed on $75,000 bail and the matter will continue on May 29 in Court Two.
