Just over a week ago the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) launched its second-division limited overs competition under the sponsorship of Edward B. Beharry Group of Companies Limited Champion products brand.
Today, at various venues across Georgetown, that competition will commence with first round matches.
Teams participating in this competition will be divided into two zones and will engage each other in the preliminary round.
The winners of Zone `A’ will play the runners up of Zone `B’ with the two winners clashing for the Edward B. Beharry Champions Cup.
In Zone `A’, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) will host Third Class Association at their Thomas Lands home ground and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) will host Queen’s College (QC)—one of six schools participating in the competition— at Queenstown.
Muslim Youth Organiza-tion (MYO) makes a return to competitive cricket in Georgetown when they take on neighbours Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) at GNIC, while School of the Nations will take on Ace Warriors at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) ground (formerly GNS ground) Carifesta Avenue.
In Zone `B’, Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) will oppose St. Stanislaus College at GYO, Police Sports Club will host Cummings Lodge Secondary at Police #2 ground whilst Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will also host Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports at GCC, Bourda.
Action in this competition will continue the following day with Diplomats from Hadfield Street, Lodge taking on the Guyana Defence Force at GNIC in a Zone `A’ fixture, whilst in Zone `B’, Transport Sports Club opposes St. Winifride’s Secondary at GYO and Everest Cricket Club hosts Christ Church Secondary at Camp Road. All matches will commence from 11:00hrs each day.
