Dear Editor,
As we are in the count-down stages to the Summer Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing, China, an educational campaign would be a good move by all the newspapers to enlighten the public about the history of the games and the level to which they have now moved. Television stations could also contribute with highlights of past Olympic Games, which could replace the less interesting shows on their channels, and this could serve to motivate potential Olympians from this end of the globe.
I am quite certain that the Guyana Olympic Association would welcome such a decision by the media at large and would be willing to help in whatever way possible. The Chinese Embassy could be consulted for their input, and the private sector could also pitch in with television sponsorship. Oh, I wouldn’t miss the highlights for anything, just as I won’t in the case of the American Idol song competition.
Mr K Juman-Yassin, head of the Guyana Olympic Association, Aliann Pompey, Marian Burnett and all the others who will be representing Guyana, I applaud you for the commitment and dedication to such a massive global event which is viewed by billions of people; carry the Golden Arrowhead proudly.
