Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony is calling on law enforcement officials to act speedily to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack on his ministry last week.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) release, Minister Anthony said that if the attack was intended to discourage Guyana from hosting the event it has failed. He said that Carifesta will go on despite the prevailing situation in Guyana, since a large number of visitors are expected, and that the ministry will not shut down all its plans but will use these “stumbling blocks as stepping stones.”
The culture ministry came under attack around 9.30 pm last Friday when a channa bomb was hurled into the compound on Main Street. Two armed men had then exited a vehicle and discharged a number of rounds to the northern side of the ministry, damaging the walls and shattering windows.
