The Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) yesterday launched its Novices and Intermediate championships scheduled to be staged in New Amsterdam on Saturday.
The launch was held in the boardroom of beverage giants Banks DIH Limited and Communications Officer of the company, Troy Peters, told the gathering including president of the GABBFF, Frank Tucker, treasurer, Fiona Harris and athletes coordinator, Leroy George, that Banks DIH, who would be pumping over $220,000.00 into the championships, was pleased to be associated with the GABBFF in this venture.
“We at Banks DIH Limited continue to support the GABBFF in their pursuit of the development of the sport of bodybuilding.
This year’s tournament that is slated to be held in Berbice is no different as we had sponsored last year’s competition under the Plus Energy brand drink whilst this year’s championship will be sponsored under our Malta brand.”
Peters said the company’s continued support to the sport of bodybuilding was two-fold.
“Firstly, we appreciate the work being done by the GABBFF to promote the sport of bodybuilding and fitness around the country and secondly, we are currently offering valuable support for sporting activities in Berbice.”
He added:”We at Banks DIH are playing our part in the development of sport because sport attracts a wide cross section of the society especially youths who have the opportunity to be disciplined and become excellent role models in our society.
“To this effect, I am sure that the younger bodybuilders who will be showcasing their talents, will be doing so full of confidence Saturday night,” he declared.
Tucker, in brief remarks, notified the press on the progress of the competition whilst taking the opportunity to highlight his expectations come Saturday.
“At present we have received 18 entries for this competition that will be competed in three (3) different weight categories. We will be having the lightweight division (under 154lbs), middleweight (154-165) and heavyweight (over 165lbs) and a good turnout is expected from the athletes especially with the non closure of entries so far. We are expecting participants from Linden, West Demerara, Georgetown and Berbice in this competition,”
Tucker also congratulated Banks DIH for their support in the past while at the same time offering his heartfelt thanks for future support from the company.
Over 18 competitors including two females will be participating in the competition that will commence from 8:00pm at the New Amsterdam Town Hall and admission is $800.00.
After the competition, a fundraising lime will be held at the same venue.
