Lisa John of Leonora Primary School, Region Three emerged the winner in the first national Spelling Bee Competition held by the Rotary Club of Stabroek in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The final round of the National Spelling Bee Competition was held at the National Cultural Centre last evening. There were 11 finalists competing from Regions 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10 and District 11/Georgetown. The competition consisted of four major rounds. After each round spell-offs were conducted to determine the winner of that round. Lisa John managed to spell the first five words correctly during a spell-off with Rajiv Woarti of Sheet Anchor Primary, Region Seven. The five words that took Lisa to victory were propinquity, religious, zealous, scrupulous and technology.
Bayeshmaal Ramsunder of C.V Nunes Primary, Region Two, Michael DeCosta of St. Margaret’s Primary, Georgetown and Emanuel Gilkes of St. Aidan’s Primary, Region 10 placed second, third and fourth, respectively.
