As the momentum for the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) X increases, 24 countries so far have confirmed their participation, and countries outside of the Caribbean such as Morocco, Austria and Indonesia will also be a part of the ten-day festival.
Moreover, Guyanese from the Diaspora in the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom will also be participating, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.
Among the visiting territories, GINA said, are Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, the Netherlands Antilles, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Jamaica, Venezuela, Brazil, Suriname and French Guiana.
During the cultural extravaganza which will begin with an opening ceremony at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara, on August 22, visiting delegations would be showcasing various aspects of their culture. And this will be featured in the performing, literary, culinary, philatelic and visual arts, community festivals, grand cultural market, trade fair and chutney show, symposia, fashion focus, community festival, youth and indigenous forum, calypso and chutney show.
According to GINA, Regional Culture Director of Jamaica Cydney Bartley said the island is at present exploring a number of ideas for participation, including such major aspects as masquerade, fashion focus and the performing arts.
And Anguilla will be coming with a delegation of 30 and intends to take part in almost all of the events. Regional Culture Director Lynda Lake said the island’s strong points will be the grand cultural market, book fair, fashion focus and youth. The island’s participation in the performing arts will feature gospel singer Susanne Best.
