A Berbice carpenter was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital after he was shot in an attempted robbery on him on Wednesday at Cumberland, Canje.
According to a police press release carpenter, Chandra David Parag of No.2 Village, East Canje had gone into a bank and withdrawn a sum of money. He was returning home in a motor vehicle around 12:15 pm, when he was confronted by a man armed with a handgun and who discharged a round hitting him in his left arm. The man then demanded that Parag hand over his money. When Parag refused another round was discharged this time hitting him in the left side of his hip. According to reports Parag then put up a struggle with the bandit who abandoned his mission and escaped on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice.
Investigations are continuing into the matter.
