Principal Magistrate Krishndat Persaud on Thursday sentenced a 43-year-old man to two years imprisonment after he admitted to a charge of break and enter and larceny.
According to the facts of the case Shameer Minachie, of no fixed place of abode, broke and entered the dwelling house of Raj Persaud at Race Course, Springlands and stole articles worth $45,000. Minachie admitted to the offence at the Springlands Court, telling the magistrate, “Boss man me sorry fuh wah happen, gi me a lil thing.”
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Michael Grant told the court that Persaud secured his house and went out around 4.30 pm, leaving the articles: one VHS converter valued $5,000, one Max Dover drilling machine worth $25,000 and a grinding machine worth $15,000 intact. He said persons in the area saw Minachie removing several louvre panes from a window on the house and gained entry. On exiting the house, public-spirited persons arrested him with the articles and took him to the Springlands Police Station where he was charged.
