Dear Editor,
I salute Mr Dorian Massay for bringing to light the horrible plight of the Nepalese in the Brickdam lockups, and Mr Simon Williams picking up where he left off.
After 99 days in the lockups, I implore the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Clement Rohee, to intervene immediately and have Mr Rajan Karki released from jail, and take the necessary steps to deport him. And I plead with President Bharrat Jagdeo to also take an interest in this case and have the man released from the dungeon.
I have travelled to Nepal several times.
The Nepalese people are some of the most gentle and generous people on earth. It is unfortunate that Mr Karki found himself without ‘proper’ papers in our national real estate. Think, however, what would have happened to the Guyanese nation if all the Guyanese abroad were meted out similar treatment for being in the country for not having ‘proper’ papers!
