The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) elected its new Council for 2008/2009 at its 118th annual general meeting (AGM) and this body later chose Chandradat Chintamani as its new President.
According to a press release GCCI immediate past President, Colonel (ret’d) Carl Morgan said the Chamber’s long history places tremendous responsibility on it to represent business and commerce in Georgetown. He said too the Chamber suffered the shocks of nationalization, denationalization and the accompanying economic and political shocks and the fact that it survived is testimony to the will and determination of its executives, councils and members.
At the same time, Morgan lamented members’ failure to take advantage of the opportunity the Chamber provides them since some are only seen when they are faced with challenges. In closing, he said he would not be seeking re-election due to ill-health and he urged the new Council to continue the Chamber’s work including the five-year strategic plan, the code of conduct and the business ‘who is who’ magazine.
The GCCI elected councillors Lloyd Austin of Austin’s Book Services, Wilfred Brandsford of Brandsville, Chandradat Chintamani of Demtoco, Frederick Collins of Courts Guyana Inc, Simeon Corbin of Guyana Entertainment Magazine, Frank DeAbreu of DeSinco Trading, Khemraj Goberdhan of GTM, Gerry Gouveia of Roraima Airways, Terry Holder of GT&T, Jason Jun of China Trading, Abdool Kadir of Guyana Oil Company, Doris Lewis of the Gift Centre, Ricardo McKlmon of Scotia Bank, Morgan, of MMC Security Force, Coleen Patterson of Grace Kennedy Remittance Services, Rajendra Persaud of Silvie’s General Store, Komal Ramnauth of Kojac Marketing Agency, Sean Rajeswar Ramrattan of RRT, Raj Singh of Raj Singh Insurance Brokers and Risk Management Consultants Inc, Robert Singh of Geddes Grant (Guyana) Limited and Clinton Urling of German’s Restaurant.
Also, in keeping with Section 20 of the Rules of the Chamber the Council elected an Executive Management Committee at a meeting held on Thursday. It comprises Chintamani, president; Urling, senior vice president; Holder, junior vice president, Goberdhan, treasurer and Patterson, secretary.
The AGM was preceded by a simple opening ceremony hosted at Brandsville Apartment.
