‘The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and parliament and the media review of recommendations for an informed democracy’ and ‘The role of the media as the Fourth Estate’ are among topics to be discussed between members of parliament (MPs) and media representatives this week.
The four-day workshop, which opens today at the Grand Coastal Inn, Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara will also deal with other topics such as parliament and the media, access to parliamentary information, coverage of the National Assembly, and speeches and speaking in parliament.
Two sessions will deal with an ‘Overview of Freedom of Information: Importance (for good governance, democracy and development), Trends and Legislative Principles’ and ‘Experiences with implementation of Freedom of Information.”
Speaker of the National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran will deliver welcome and opening remarks.
Among the presenters are Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Information Neil Parsanal, CPA Assistant Director Shem Baldeosingh, Political Editor of the Trinidad Express Ria Taitt and a number of local and regional government and opposition MPs.
