Imran Khan playing with a six handicap recorded a gross 75 to end with a net 69 on his way to winning the Scotiabank 40th Anniversary Golf tournament played last Monday (Independence Day) at the Lusignan Golf Course.
Khan, who won the Scotiabank tournament for the first time in 1999, turned back a strong field and also carted off the best gross prize with his 75.
He now has his eyes set on winning the tournament for the third time to claim the ScotiaBank lien trophy that has been in existence since 1996.
Alfred Mentore, playing with a seven handicap, recorded a gross 77 to end with a net 70 for second place.
It was Mentore’s second top three placing over the past two weeks following his third place finish in the Courts Guyana Inc. tournament.
Bholaram Deo (handicap 15) had a gross 87 to finish with a net 71 for third place.
The youthful Avinda Kishore won the nearest to the flag prize.
Scotiabank Country Manager Amanda St. Aubyn who assisted in the presentation of prizes congratulated the winners and thanked the players for participating in the 40th Anniversary tournament.
She pledged the bank’s continued support to golf, something they have been doing for over 12 years.
Patrick Prashad LGC captain thanked the sponsor for the range of prizes offered and their strong commitment to the development of the sport in Guyana while LGC President Mel Sankies in brief remarks thanked all the Scotiabank officials for attending especially the country manager for being involved.
Sankies explained how grateful the club was for the bank’s input.
The c lub also presented caps, jerseys and golf ball to all the players and caddies at last Monday’s event.
Meanwhile, a panel from the Golf Club will be on NCN Television this evening to share with the public information on golfing in Guyana from 21:00 hours.
