Dear Editor,
I am really concerned about the careless dumping of plastic bottles and utensils in this country. Despite the numerous campaigns and appeals nothing has curbed this new trend. I had wanted to engineer a clean up campaign for Carifesta, but decided not to do so because it would be a waste of time and resources.
I want to make a suggestion which could see this entire country become spotless and clean forever – even the bottle caps would be hard to find. The government which is collecting the environment tax should build a plastic recycling plant and repurchase the discarded bottles, etc. In this way no one would want to see any bottle thrown away. As for me it would certainly assist in purchasing gasoline for my vehicle.
We are a civilized society, I suppose. I am also of the opinion that technology is improving daily. Why can’t this government embark on such a project which would bring long-term relief in respect of the massive flooding we experience when it rains? If we are serious about the garbage pile-up in this country and are desirous of curbing same, then we have to think about a long-term plan.
Constructing new hotels and swimming pools gives the impression that great things are happening, but how laudable would these projects appear if plastic bottles and utensils are thrown away and resurface when the rain falls? It is time the decision-makers strive to eradicate the garbage problem through the initiative of erecting a recycling plant. In addition, individuals would be gainfully employed.
Yours faithfully,
