The National Sport Commission (NSC) has planned a series of sporting events countrywide as well as the opening of a new gym in observance of International Challenge Day.
According to Director of Sport Neil Kumar, the NSC intends to promote the involvement in sports from persons throughout the country and has planned a day of sports at various venues throughout the country as they join with countries around the world in celebrating International Challenge Day. “First we will have a grand activity beginning at 9am tomorrow (today) at the National Stadium where there will be a variety of sport events including softball cricket, karate, volleyball, table tennis, football, cycling and athletics,” Kumar said.
He said that the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, would be actively involved in the event.
Kumar added that events of the same nature will take place simultaneously in Linden, Good Hope, as well as in communities in Essequibo and Berbice and will involve more than 300 students.
According to Kumar, the activities will continue this afternoon when the NSC launches the ‘Fitness For Life Gym’ in the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 4pm.
