Operations have been scaled back at the Fort Wellington Hospital, West Berbice as the second phase of rehabilitative works has started.
According to Regional Executive Officer Floyd France operations have been scaled back as the doctor’s clinic, offices and x-ray department have been relocated to facilitate the repairs. Currently termite-infested walls are being replaced.
France also told Stabroek News that the “region has put systems in place and is still looking at emergencies.” He said the first phase of the project which included the renovation of the wards, was completed in November so warded patients are not being affected by the noise from the construction.
The project is aimed at ensuring “that the hospital meets the standard of what a hospital should be” and the region is undertaking it under its works programme.
