The Shorties have quickly become the favourites to capture the title in the Guyana Squash Association’s (GSA) Farfan and Mendes senior team tournament when they rolled to their third consecutive victory on Thursday night at the Georgetown Club courts.
The dynamic quintet’s team is still unbeaten despite facing teams with players twice their age. One of the shorties, 14-year-old Keisha Jeffrey told Stabroek Sport:“We have great team chemistry and because all of us are on the national junior squad we understand each other and are able to make up for each other’s weaknesses.”
Although no member of their team is older than 16, the Shorties were able to take down Beatles which included former national player Reagan Pollard and Allan Downes.
Only Pollard and Nyron Joseph were able to grab victories for their team while, Keisha Jeffrey took apart Downes, to follow team mates Kayla Jeffrey and Jason-Ray Khalil who did the same against Javier Grau and Nicholas Narain respectively.
Meanwhile The Real Thing bounced back from their unsuccessful start to complete a convincing 3-1 victory against Overdrive. Victories for The Real Thing came from Javid Rahaman, Ingram Edwards and Abhishek Singh.
