Ronald Bulkhan, playing with a handicap 21, recorded a gross 89 to finish with a net 68 and triumph in the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) golf tournament played last Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Course.
Bulkhan, who has played extremely well this year, staved off a strong challenge from Robert Hanoman and Jorge Medina who finished second and third respectively.
Hanoman (25 handicap) and Mendina (38 handicap) each ended with a net 69 but Hanoman won on a count back from Mendina after his back nine score netted 34 to his opponent’s 35.
Imran Khan, who won the recent Scotia Bank tournament, captured the Nearest to the Flag prize at hole nine edging out Clifford Reis by 12 inches.
Mel Sankies, president of the Lusignan Golf Club and Club Captain Patrick Prashad, each thanked GBTI for sponsoring the tournament and for their continued contribution to the development of golf in Guyana.
Meanwhile, after three weeks of hectic competition locally following the Courts Guyana Inc., Scotia Bank and GBTI tournaments, 15 golfers will leave Guyana later this week for Barbados.
They will compete in friendly matches against members of the Royal West Morland Golf Club while in Bridgetown.
