Paul Meusa defeated Colin France 3-2 on Friday to claim the men’s singles title of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) and National Sports Commission (NSC)-sponsored In-dependence tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
In the semi-finals Meusa defeated Caribbean Under-15 boys’ champion Nigel Bryan while France got past Edinho Lewis 3-0 in the his semifinal.
In the men’s final Meusa who lost the first game 7-11, and the third 3-11 won the second 11-8, the fourth, 11-5 and the fifth 11-7.
Lewis defeated Bryan 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-9) to claim third place.
In the women’s singles final Trenace Lowe kept her promise and won the title after defeating her toughest local adversary Michelle John 3-2, the reigning Caribbean girls’ champion.
Lowe triumphed 6-11, 13-11, 9-11, 14-12, 11-4, while Vida Moore brushed aside Jody-Ann Blake in the third place playoff.
In the `B’ class open category Lewis defeated Joel Alleyne 11-4, 11-8, 11-7 in the final.
Lewis and Alleyne were responsible for Bryan and John’s exit in the semis respectively winning by 3-1 margins.
